Thanks to the popularity of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries both in its native Australia and internationally, the show spawned a standalone feature film – Miss Fisher And The Crypt Of Tears – which was released in early 2020 and partially crowdfunded by fans. The film sees Phryne embroiled in a mystery involving a cursed emerald that takes her from Jerusalem to London and boasts a cast that includes?series regular Miriam Margolyes, British actor Rupert Penry-Jones (The Strain) and Egyptian Tyrant star Kal Naga.

The ending left the door wide open for a follow-up and co-creators Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger have stated in the past that they originally planned on making an Indiana Jones-style Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries movie trilogy. But is a Miss Fisher And The Crypt Of Tears sequel actually on the cards?
Unfortunately, a Miss Fisher And The Crypt Of Tears sequel has yet to be announced. Considering that it took a good few years and a crowdfunding campaign to get the first Miss Fisher movie off the ground, it could be a while before viewers can expect to see a sequel.
That said, the Miss Fisher’s Modern Mysteries cast is definitely interested in making a follow-up. In an interview with Den Of Geek, Essie Davis suggested she was open to returning for a Miss Fisher And The Crypt Of Tears sequel but noted that a new entry was dependent on the success of the first movie.
While a Miss Fisher And The Crypt Of Tears sequel isn’t currently in the works there are other ways to get a similar murder mystery fix in the meantime. A Miss Fisher spinoff titled Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries went into production in 2018 and focuses on Phryne Fisher’s niece Peregrine Fisher, who follows in her aunt’s footsteps and becomes a P.I. in 1960s Melbourne. The spinoff aired its first season in 2019 and its second season is set to air sometime in 2021.
